Thai Ensemble in Kentucky
The Kent State University Thai Ensemble performing at PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) in Louisville, Kentucky, at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2003. This was probably one of the last performances by this ensemble, of which I was a member since the fall of 1993.
In the summer of 1998, this group (made up of all Americans, with two Chinese and one Taiwanese, in addition to our director, who was Thai, and various Thai guests who sat in from time to time) became the first Thai classical music ensemble from outside Thailand to tour Thailand (at that time under the direction of Panya Roongruang and Terry E. Miller).
The ensemble no longer exists at the Kent campus of Kent State University, but a smaller ensemble is now in existence at the Kent State University Stark Campus in Canton, Ohio, directed by Mr. Priwan Nanongkham.
